YOUNG WRITERS INVITED TO ENTER SHORT STORY CONTEST!

INNISFIL, ON (September 1, 2022) – If you are in Grades 3-12, you’re invited to set your imagination free and submit your original work for our annual Short Story Contest. Show off your creative writing skills by submitting your short story,from now until October 28, 2022, for your chance to win great prizes and have your work published in the Library’s very own story anthology. Stories must be submitted online at https://www.innisfilidealab.ca/writeon/

“The Short Story contest encourages emerging writers and celebrates the diverse talent in our community,” said Anne Smith, Innisfil ideaLAB & Library Board Chair. “It is an excellent opportunity for the library to inspire creativity, spark the imagination and to encourage our youth to create some magic with words.” 

Five winners from each of the contest’s three age categories: Junior (grades 3-6); Intermediate (grades 7-8) and Senior (grades 9-12) will be selected by this year’s guest judge, Canadian Children’s author, Michelle Kadarusman. Michelle is an internationally acclaimed, award-winning children’s author. She grew up in Melbourne, Australia, and has also lived in Indonesia and Canada. Her novels have earned many nominations and honors, including the Canadian Governor General’s Literary Awards. Michelle will be at the Lakeshore Branch on Thursday September 22 from 4:00pm-5:00pm to share tips, tricks, and techniques to make you the best writer you can be! Registration is required for this exciting opportunity.

The best story overall across all age categories will receive the $500 Seepe Walters Award. Seepe Walters was a respected and dedicated member of the Innisfil community until her death in 1995. She was deeply involved with the Innisfil community and shared a passion for writing and all things literary. Seepe Walters’ commitment to her community and specifically her legacy to the Library is honoured through this prestigious award.

The annual Short Story Contest provides the youth in our community with an opportunity to explore a passion for creative writing while celebrating literacy, imagination and achievement.
