Prompt Chosen: A bunch of random birds at a very important meeting

Title of work: In Honour

What inspired you to choose this prompt?
In Honour is a memorial for Cher Ami, a war pigeon who lost his leg while delivering a message on the battlefield. He received a medal honouring his bravery. I picked this prompt to demonstrate the significance of storytelling and abstraction, qualities artists better utilize than AI.

Sarah Hancock
Sarah Hancock is a contemporary eco-artist concerned with environmental dissonance. By exploring critical ecology Sarah finds the intersection of femininity, nature and science emerging in her art. Sarah’s goal is to deconstruct our scientific understanding of nature to pave the way for land, cultural and female-based knowledge. Her practice involves confrontational paintings of Ontario wildlife, mycology and vulture culture-inspired sculpture, and textiles exploring natural dyes and pigments. She graduated from York University with a BFA in honours, showcased at TOAF 2024 and is one of 3 finalists for the Barrie Emerging Arts Award. In 2025 Sarah plans to go to Iceland for a residency program on Hrisey Island to develop her relationship with lichen.
